Grinling Gibbons Primary School
We are a growing and academically successful School in Lewisham that topped the Sunday Times Parent Power 2014 league of primary schools.
We have worked with Educo for several years and were part of a grouping that initially came away from local authority control in around 2009. The original 3 year catering contract that Educo established had been successful and we exercised the option to extend the contract for a further 2 years.
The initial Educo contract was tendered alongside a number of other Lewisham Schools although we were able to specify our own unique requirements of service and have our own specific contract with the caterer. Although we were part of a tender cluster we were always treated for our own individual needs without any dependency whatsoever on any other school.
The original service was a real improvement with better food standards meeting the nutritional benefits of the Food for Life programme, fresh food on-site cooking, staff management and this was reflected in increased take up alongside financial benefits for the school. At the time of the contract extension, Educo’s negotiating experience meant that these benefits were further enhanced.
In 2015 by way of best practice the contract was re-tendered, this time the consortium of schools was further increased by the addition of schools from our own and an adjacent borough. As previously the tender focuses on us as an individual school and we are not in any way dependent on any other school. Educo ran a successful OJEU compliant tender process for the consortium and on this occasion a number of caterers were appointed across the different schools.
The recent tender has further extended the benefits of working with Educo as have we continued to improve food standards. We have on-going financial benefits and KPI’s with penalties for non-performance by the caterer.
Working with Educo has ensured an on-going journey of improving catering standards and development of our catering service.
